NHL insider provides latest update on Detroit Red Wings General Manager search

This afternoon, a new report from NHL insider Jeff Marek has added a new name into the conversation for the next GM of the Detroit Red Wings.
The Detroit Red Wings offseason has been filled with absolute chaos from the Dylan Larkin trade request to the firing of GM Steve Yzerman.
Now, ownership and the remaining staff in Detroit are left to pick up the pieces and get the franchise back on track heading into 2026-27.
The first step in that process for the Red Wings is finding a new General Manager who will have to handle the Larkin situation.
To this point, the Red Wings have been in preliminary talks with several candidates and today NHL insider Jeff Marek has added a new name to the list of candidates.
Jeff Marek reveals new GM candidate expected to interview with the Red Wings
According to Marek's sources longtime Dallas Stars executive Scott White is an early candidate expected to be interviewed by the Red Wings.

Wild was hired as the Stars AHL Director of Hockey Operations in 2005 and ascended in the organization eventually being named an Assistant General Manager of the NHL club in 2016.
Since then, he has been a crucial part of the Stars organization who have been perennial Stanley Cup contenders while also being able to find hidden gems in the NHL Draft when given the chance.
White seems to be a clear and obvious candidate for a GM job at some point and the Red Wings could be the team to give him that shot.
The move would come with the risk of hiring a first time GM but Detroit went with experience when hiring Steve Yzerman and that did not play out well so maybe they will be looking for a fresh perspective.
