Dylan Larkin to the Canadiens is being pushed hard online, but the Red Wings center still isn't on a Montreal list. Here's what we know.
A fresh rumor has the Larkin saga spinning again, and this one comes with a big warning label.
Hockey insider account "@HockeyyInsiderr" on X posted that Larkin going from the Detroit Red Wings to the Montreal Canadiens is pretty much a done deal, claiming the center agreed to waive his no-trade clause.
The poster said a trade could be announced within 24 hours, though he admitted the info didn't come from a top source.
That admission matters, because almost everything credible points the other way.
Larkin asked out of Detroit in June, and he has only approved a list of 10 teams. Montreal isn't on it.
ESPN also reported that a source says he isn't looking for a trade to a Canadian team.
Why the timing feels interesting
Still, the noise is getting louder.
Larkin was held out of Thursday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks for trade-related reasons, according to league sources.
Red Wings staff have also been scouting the Canadiens in person, and Elliotte Friedman said recently that the line has moved on a Montreal fit.
Larkin carries an $8.7 million cap hit, and Detroit can't send him anywhere he doesn't approve, so the final call belongs to him.
What about Michael Hage?
The same account added a second note that could change the whole shape of this deal.
Hage, the Canadiens prospect who plays at Michigan, is reportedly not part of the package heading to Detroit.
That would be a big detail, since his name has been attached to this trade for weeks.
Friedman has reported that Montreal is on the fence about including him.
For now, nothing is official. If Larkin opens the door to Montreal, this could move fast.
