New report reveals what Stars players did to help end Jason Robertson's contract standoff

The Jason Robertson saga in Dallas dragged on for most of the summer, and now we're learning it wasn't just management pushing for a resolution.

According to insider David Pagnotta, there was real frustration building among a number of Stars players as the negotiation stretched on without a resolution.

That frustration reportedly turned into action.

NHL Trade Rumors reported that several of Robertson's teammates picked up the phone and called him directly, encouraging him to accept a one year deal worth $12 million dollars in average annual value.

The message from the room was apparently simple: Dallas is a legitimate contender right now, and the runway to win doesn't stay open forever.

It's not common for a contract standoff to spill into the room the way this one reportedly did.

Robertson turned down an eight year offer worth roughly $15 million a season from Seattle, and Dallas also explored trade talks with Pittsburgh before things were sorted out.

For a roster built to win now, with names like Rantanen, Hintz and Duchene already locked into term, the uncertainty around Robertson's future clearly wore on people.

Robertson ultimately signed for one year at $12 million, a bridge deal that buys both sides time before tackling a longer term extension.

He becomes eligible to sign that extension as early as January 1st, and Dallas holds the leverage to offer more years than any other club could.

Whether this experience changes how the front office and locker room approach the next negotiation remains to be seen, but it's clear this one left a mark internally.
