Martin Necas was acquired by Colorado last season, but with no desires to extend his contract there, he's now been linked to two top contenders.
Last season, the Colorado Avalanche acquired Martin Necas in the blockbuster deal involving
Mikko Rantanen, and unsurprisingly, he fit in seamlessly on their top line alongside
Nathan MacKinnon.
In 30 games with the team, Necas had 11 goals and 28 points, and it appears as though they viewed him as a long-term piece alongside their biggest stars as they look to get back into Stanley Cup contention.
Martin Necas May Be On His Way Out of Colorado: Two Teams Interested
However, Necas hasn't seemed interested in signing a long-term deal this off-season, and with the 26-year old set to be a free agent in the summer of 2026, they may opt to move him at some point.
Now, we know some of the teams that are interested, with
RG Media noting that they would be stunned if he finished the season in Colorado, with two top contenders in the East interested in him.
The Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, and Anaheim Ducks were highlighted as potential rental destinations, while the Philadelphia Flyers and San Jose Sharks could explore him with an extension in place.
Clearly there are other interested parties as well, but with it likely to be contenders chasing him ahead of the deadline, both Toronto and New York are teams that make the most sense for Necas.
In his first game this year, Necas put up two goals, and if the Avalanche can start hot, there's always a chance that he changes his mind, but for now, all signs point to a trade, so keep a close eye on Toronto, New York and other big contenders that may need help up front.
