The Chicago Blackhawks brought Patrick Kane home Thursday, and Jonathan Toews reacted with a word fans keep misreading.
That two-year, $16 million deal, first reported by Elliotte Friedman, carries a full no-move clause.
Toews texted that he is "straight-up jealous" his old linemate gets to pull on a Blackhawks sweater again, per The Athletic.
"We were texting, and as happy as I am for him, I told him I'm straight-up jealous that he's gonna get to play for the Hawks again.”

That line is spreading as a comeback tease. It is the opposite.
Jonathan Toews retired on June 19, 2026, confirmed by NHL.com and the Winnipeg Jets, after one final season with his hometown club.
A player angling for a return does not publicly hand the spotlight to someone else. He quietly keeps his name in circulation instead.
Why the envy reads as closure, not a comeback
Toews spent two years fighting Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome just to play 82 games in Winnipeg last season.
He came back, proved he could still do it, and walked away on his own terms in June.
Jealousy from that place is not restlessness. It is a man who knows the door is shut and is at peace saying so out loud.
Kyle Davidson reversed course on one legend, not two
Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson dismantled the Kane-Toews core in 2023 to hand Connor Bedard a blank slate, and once said he did not foresee undoing it.
Kane's $8 million return is that reversal, but only halfway.
Davidson decided Bedard's leadership is secure enough to reabsorb Kane's skill, while Toews stays a retired banner in the rafters.
The reunion fans want already happened, and it ended in Winnipeg.
Kane gets the encore, Toews gets the peace.
Those are two different endings, and only one of them is still being written.
