The Buffalo Sabres have been struggling for a long time, and now Gary Bettman and the NHL is clearly growing frustrated with their situation.

For the past 15 years, the Buffalo Sabres have been at the heart of many jokes around the NHL, with the team holding the longest active post-season drought in all of North American sports.
The 2025/26 held plenty of optimism, but unfortunately they've struggled very early in the season, going 0-3-0 with a -8 goal differential as they once again look like they're lining up another tough campaign.

Gary Bettman Growing Frustrated With the Sabres

Unsurprisingly, the lack of competitiveness isn't just an issue effecting the team and the city, but it's effecting the NHL as well, as the team have struggled to take any step forward in recent years.
Now, NHL Insider Chris Johnston has revealed just how frustrating it's becoming for Gary Bettman and the league, noting how they've failed at every level as an organization, with the NHL not happy about the situation.
Clearly it's a failing at many levels to get to where they've sort of slipped as an organization, I know it's something the NHL isn't too happy about.
It's unclear if the league are planning on doing something about it, with a few options such as pushing for the sale of the team or even potentially looking to relocate them, but as of right now, they've not become too involved in the situation in Buffalo.
Ultimately, if things don't get better, the NHL will have to step in and make a change at some point, but with a young core, there's still always the chance that they can somehow turn things around before it gets to that point.
