Rare trade between Bruins and Maple Leafs may be in the works per The Athletic

This past summer, the Toronto Maple Leafs looked at several options to potentially replace Mitch Marner's production, with one of those being Matias Maccelli whom they acquired from Utah in a trade.

Unfortunately, despite being used in several different roles, Maccelli just hasn't produced in Toronto, putting together just 5 goals and 13 points across 27 games as he's been a healthy scratch several times during that stint.

That's led to plenty of speculation around the 25-year old, and now in a new report from The Athletic, it has been revealed that the Boston Bruins, an Atlantic Division rival have checked in on Maccelli's availability.

Last trade deadline, the Bruins moved out several veterans and got younger, and given that Maccelli is just 25 with 251 games of NHL experience under his belt, he could be a genuine option for Boston in their middle-six.

As of right now however, it's unclear just how active Toronto want to be ahead of the Olympic break as they look to turn their slow start to the new campaign around, but if the offers are there, moving Maccelli after an underwhelming start makes sense.

Ultimately, the Bruins and Maple Leafs don't do business very often as long-time, fierce rivals, but given how open Toronto are to dealing Maccelli and the trade they made a year ago at the deadline, don't be shocked to see something happen here moving forward.
