Bruins mourn team member just weeks after he joined the organization - Don Sweeney issues statement

Boston Bruins Director of Hockey Operations Alex Gimenez has died just weeks into his new role with the team.
The Boston Bruins are mourning the sudden loss of Alex Gimenez, the team's Director of Hockey Operations for the Collective Bargaining Agreement, who passed away just weeks into his tenure with the organization.
General manager Don Sweeney confirmed the news in a statement shared by the team on X, calling Gimenez's death a devastating loss for everyone who worked alongside him.
"The Boston Bruins are deeply saddened to share the passing of our colleague Alex Gimenez.
Alex joined our team in July as Director of Hockey Operations, Collective Bargaining Agreement. Although Alex's time with the Bruins was far too brief, his intelligence, thoughtfulness and character were evident from the moment he joined us.
Alex earned the respect of all who knew and worked with him throughout his career and, most importantly, he was a wonderful person who will be greatly missed.

Gimenez joined the Bruins in July after a front office shakeup that also brought in Kevyn Adams as senior advisor and promoted Dennis Bonvie and Jeremy Rogalski to assistant general manager roles.
His job covered contract negotiations, salary cap management and CBA compliance, areas that had opened up after Evan Gold left the organization for another NHL opportunity.
It was a newly created position within Boston's hockey operations department, and one the front office clearly viewed as important heading into a season the Bruins hope will mark a return to contention after missing the playoffs.
A short but memorable tenure
Before arriving in Boston, Gimenez spent time as manager of hockey analytics and strategic projects for the PWHL and worked for more than a decade in the Boston Red Sox front office, most recently as assistant director of major league operations and pro scouting.
He was a Cornell University graduate with a background in industrial and labor relations.
Despite only being with the Bruins for a couple of months, colleagues say Gimenez made an immediate impact.
His intelligence and character stood out right away, and people who crossed paths with him throughout his career came away with the same impression.
Bruins organization sends condolences
The team says its thoughts are with Gimenez's family, friends and loved ones during what it described as an incredibly difficult time.
No cause of death has been shared publicly, and no further updates on the hockey operations department have been announced.
