The Boston Bruins have dominated the regular season in the past few years, and now Head Coach Jim Montgomery has opened up after a bad start in 2024/25.
Over the last two years, the Boston Bruins have set records for their impressive performances in the regular season, but in 2024/25 it hasn't quite gone their way, as the team has posted a 4-6-1 record in their first 11 games, placing them last in the Atlantic Division. With 71 games to go, there's no worry that the team won't be able to find their best form, but after sitting first at this time over the last two seasons, it's certainly a major step back.
However, those regular season successes have led to just one Stanley Cup Playoff series victory, and it's that fact that was at the heart of Jim Montgomery's message for those watching the Bruins falter early in the season.
«We had a lot of success the last two years,» Montgomery said. «We were first place in the league at Thanksgiving the last two years. We never achieved anything we wanted to. Right now, we're not happy. Nobody's happy with what's going on, but we will get out of it, and we will be better, and, hopefully, it creates a better result come playoff time.»
This season, it's the performance on the road for Boston that has given them the most issues, with a 1-3-1 mark through five games played, and with the team ranking in the bottom third of the league in goals scored, and 28th in goals allowed, something must change. Whether that's a blockbuster trade or simple changes to the lineup we are yet to see, but this is still a very long season, and with the long game and the ultimate goal in mind, it appears Montgomery remains confident this team can compete in 2024/25.
