Toronto Maple Leafs Acquire 57-Point Scorer From Western Conference Team

The Toronto Maple Leafs are sending a conditional 3rd round draft pick to the Utah Mammoth and are getting Matias Maccelli in return.
Shortly after the Toronto Maple Leafs concluded the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, they made a trade with the Utah Mammoth.
Toronto is acquiring forward Matias Maccelli from Utah in return for a conditional 3rd round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.
He has 1 year left on his current contract, which carries an AAV (average annual value) of $3.43 million.
Taken 98th overall by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Maccelli reached a career-best 57 points (17G, 40A) during the Coyotes' last year in Arizona while appearing in all 82 games.
But he was limited to just 55 games this year, scoring 18 points (8G, 10A). He was also designated a healthy scratch on multiple occasions, something that Utah head coach André Tourigny knew wasn't easy on him.
It's not a role he wants. Nobody wants to be in that situation. But we appreciate his attitude and his engagement in the group. I think he's handled himself very well.
He kept a good attitude about it and vowed to continue working to make himself better despite the difficult situation.
Obviously, things change all the time. Just trying to work hard every day and make myself better. That's all I can do, pretty much. Stay positive around here, these are big games we need to win if we want to make the playoffs.
After Utah missed the postseason, Maccelli will now get a fresh start in Toronto.
