Utah Mammoth prospect Tij Iginla, the son of NHL Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla, has undergone double-hip surgery and will be forced to wear a no-contact jersey at development camp.
He's only 18 years old, but Utah Mammoth prospect Tig Iginla, the son of NHL Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla, is already facing a considerable obstacle in his young career.
He's undergone double-hip surgery and while he'll be a participant at Utah's Development Camp, he'll be wearing a non-contact jersey.
Understandably, undergoing such an invasive procedure at a young age wasn't something that the younger Iginla expected.
It wasn't probably what I would've expected, at 18 years old getting double-hip surgery.
He was taken by the Mammoth with the 9th pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, which was held at The Sphere in Las Vegas.
Utah general manager Bill Armstrong confirmed that Iginla would be present at Development Camp and that he's excited.
He'll be out there. He's really excited about being here. He'll move slowly, but get going. Good to see him and he is back on the ice.
He did miss most of last year's Training Camp because of a lower-body injury, and later had 32 points (14G, 18A) with the Western Hockey League's Kelowna Rockets.
It was great to be a part of that [Utah] camp. I definitely learned a lot, for one thing, I learned that my hips were pretty messed up. Other than that, it was good to see the level, see the guys, be around that.
