Evgeni Malkin Linked To The Dallas Stars In Possible Blockbuster Trade Following Tyler Seguin's Injury

With Tyler Seguin out four-to-six months, as he recovers from hip surgery, the Dallas Stars could seek to add some offense, particularly up the middle.

One aggressive path: Go all in on the pursuit of Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin. A move for Malkin could vault the Stars into playoff contention, but it wouldn't be easy, or inexpensive.

Cam Robinson from 'Elite Prospects' had already insinuated a growing speculation toward such a probable trade.

Even at 38 years old, Malkin remains an elite playmaker and clutch scorer, putting up elite seasons year after year. Between the pile of milestones and decorated Penguins legacy, he brings serious juice into any roster.

Teaming Malkin up with Jamie Benn could finally give the Stars that potent one-two punch and the depth required to compete in the Central Division. Of course, adding Malkin will prove rather costly.

The Penguins will surely ask for substantial compensation, most likely top prospects, a high draft pick, and perhaps even a key roster player, so the Stars, in general, would have to sacrifice pieces for their future while giving up present depth-type assets, a risk that is well worth it in setting them up for a deep playoff run.

Of course, he also has a full no-trade clause, which allows Malkin to block any trade. He'd need to want out of Pittsburgh, his sole home since entering the league.

And that can be a hard barrier to cross, with the loyalty he has towards the Penguins and their fans regardless of what opportunity Dallas does present.

Given everything, money, logistics, and, perhaps the toughest nut to crack, that there's a player who does not want to leave Pittsburgh, adding Malkin would be a game-changer for the Stars but tough for Dallas to consummate.
