The Dylan Larkin trade market keeps narrowing, and a familiar Minnesota name is now at the center of it. Elliotte Friedman believes Danila Yurov is exactly the type of player the Detroit Red Wings would want from the Wild.
Friedman shared his thinking, saying:
I'll bet you Detroit's looking at Yurov and saying, ‘You know what? This guy's taken strides.' I bet you a guy like Yurov is more palatable to Detroit than maybe he was five months ago. But it's those kinds of players. Whatever deal Detroit's thinking about here, and there could be more than one
Yurov Fits Detroit's Plan
The Red Wings have been consistent about their approach. Detroit will not settle for a futures-only package, and the team wants help that can contribute right away.
Yurov, a young forward who has kept developing in Minnesota, offers far more immediate value than a prospect who is still years from the NHL.
Friedman's remarks also suggest Yurov's stock has risen. If Detroit now views him as a more attractive piece than it did earlier this year, the Wild are holding a more valuable chip than before.
That matters because Michael Russo previously reported Minnesota would have to part with either Yurov or Charlie Stramel to land Larkin.
What It Means for Minnesota
Minnesota has reportedly tried to sell Detroit on a futures-based offer, yet a player like Yurov changes the conversation. He lets the Wild meet Detroit's demand for NHL-ready talent without giving up a defenseman like Jonas Brodin, whom Minnesota has shown little motivation to move.
Friedman also noted there could be more than one deal on Detroit's radar, which suggests interim GM Shawn Horcoff is keeping every option open. Larkin's 10-team no-trade list includes the Wild, so Minnesota remains a legitimate destination, and the Red Wings clearly have a type in mind.
Whether Yurov becomes the centerpiece of a Larkin deal remains to be seen, but Detroit's interest in a rising young forward points toward a more realistic path for both clubs as talks continue.
