Calgary just moved a former top offensive prospect to Dallas for a right-shot defender, and while it isn't a blockbuster, it shows a clear shift in priorities.
Jeremie Poirier is headed to Texas.
The Flames drafted him in the 3rd round, 72nd overall, back in 2020.
He's been a human highlight reel at times for the Wranglers.
The kid is a dynamo when he has the puck.
But his production dried up this year. He has 1 goal and 5 assists in 35 games for the Wranglers. His minus-18 rating is a complete eyesore.

Gavin White is the man coming back to Alberta.
Dallas took him in the 4th round, 115th overall, in 2022.
He's a smooth-skating motor on the ice. He only has 5 points in 23 games with the Texas Stars this year. Calgary decided the positional need outweighed the pure offensive upside.
It is a safe play.
Safe plays don't usually win you a Stanley Cup, not that the Flames are considered to be close. We'll see if Poirier makes them regret this by the time he hits his prime.
