The NHL is set to have its biggest game of the season tonight
The NHL is set to have its biggest game of the year tonight as the Washington Capitals play the Philadelphia Flyers with major Stanley Cup Playoff implications for 4 teams: the Capitals, Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Detroit Red Wings.
Currently, the final wild-card spot in the NHL is up for grabs with four teams vying for the spot. Two of those four teams, the Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers, will face off tonight and the fate of the Penguins and the Red Wings lies in the fate of the game's outcome.
If the Capitals win, they have guaranteed entry to the playoffs eliminating the Flyers, Penguins, and Red Wings.
For the Flyers to even stay alive, they must beat the Capitals in regulation but even then they will depend on the Penguins and Red Wings to lose.
Craziest possible scenario tonight: Flyers must win in regulation to have a chance. Any kind of win by Capitals puts them in playoffs. What happens if game is tied late in third period? Flyers have to pull goalie, don't they? Risking Capitals clinching on empty-netter.
The Red Wings also play tonight versus the Montreal Canadiens with this being a must-win game if they want to get in.
Here is the breakdown of each team's playoff odds as is:
Capitals: 42.8%
Red Wings: 36.3%
Penguins: 15.1%
Flyers: 5.9%
This is going down to the wire and we will watch by with complete excitement!
