Eric Robinson made sure his Stanley Cup day meant something beyond himself, and he chose the one rink that shaped his entire hockey life to do it.

The Carolina Hurricanes forward grew up skating five hours a day under coach Guy Gaudreau at Hollydell Ice Arena in Sewell, New Jersey, alongside Guy's sons, Johnny and Matthew.
Johnny went on to become one of the most electric players of his generation, spending 11 seasons in the NHL, including a stretch alongside Robinson in Columbus.
Matthew carved out his own path in college hockey.
Both brothers were murdered in August 2024 after being struck by a drunk driver while riding their bikes, a loss that shook the entire hockey world and hit especially close to home in South Jersey.
So when Robinson finally got his turn with the Cup this summer, he knew exactly where it needed to go.

A moment years in the making

Robinson brought the trophy to Hollydell, where photos of Johnny and Matthew still hang on the rink walls, and handed it to Guy in front of family, friends, and the tight knit group known as the Hollydell Boys.
It was described as a bittersweet scene, with Robinson noting the mix of pride and heartbreak that came with celebrating a title the brothers never got to see.

Carrying the Gaudreau legacy forward

Guy Gaudreau has become something of a fixture around the league since the tragedy, appearing on the ice with teams like the Blue Jackets and Flyers, and now standing beside the Cup thanks to one of the players he helped raise.
For the kids at Hollydell watching it all unfold, Robinson's journey from that same rink to hockey's biggest prize is proof of what the ice there has always produced.
