Conor Sheary and Vincent Iorio hit NHL waivers Tuesday as rosters tighten, while Tyson Jost cleared and stays in the AHL picture.
Conor Sheary and Vincent Iorio are officially on the waiver wire, and it's a busy day for roster cuts around the league.
Sheary belongs to the Buffalo Sabres, who signed the 34-year-old winger to a one-year deal on July 1.
He got hurt in the preseason opener against Pittsburgh on Sept. 21 and landed on injured reserve ahead of Monday's roster deadline.
Now he's on waivers, with the plan to loan him to AHL Rochester if nobody bites.
He was back on the ice at Tuesday's practice and reportedly ready to play.
Iorio's situation is a bit stranger.
The New York Rangers moved the 23-year-old defenseman to injured reserve Monday because of a lower-body injury from last week's exhibition game, then put him on waivers Tuesday.
If he clears, he reports to AHL Hartford.
Sheary's Pittsburgh past
Pittsburgh is where Sheary's name carries the most weight.
He won two Stanley Cups with the Penguins and later came back for a second stint.
Iorio's path runs through Washington, San Jose and New York, and the Rangers claimed him off waivers from the Sharks on Jan. 31.
He also won two Calder Cups with Hershey, which makes him a nice depth piece for Hartford.
Jost clears
The third name from the wire is Tyson Jost, who cleared and stays with Nashville's organization.
Teams get 24 hours to put in a claim on Sheary or Iorio.
Clubs hunting for blue line depth could look at the younger Iorio, while Sheary is set to head to Rochester if he clears.
