Wild defenseman Brock Faber underwent surgery for a fractured skull, and GM Bill Guerin says there is no timetable for his return.
Minnesota's blue line just took a scary hit before the regular season has even started.
Brock Faber underwent surgery to repair a fractured skull, and general manager Bill Guerin told reporters on Tuesday that there is no timetable for his return.
The injury happened Friday in the preseason finale, a 2-1 loss to the Dallas Stars.
A puck struck Faber in the head, and he skated to the bench under his own power.
He kept playing for the rest of the second period before the Wild held him out of the third.
The team says the surgery took place Sunday and went well.
Guerin added that Faber is doing well and resting at home.
Minnesota has placed him on injured reserve.
Why this hurts Minnesota
Faber is only 24, and he is a top pairing defenseman.
He scored 15 goals in 80 games last season, then logged massive minutes in the playoffs as the Wild reached the second round before Colorado ended their run.
He also helped Team USA win gold at the 2026 Olympics.
He was expected to skate next to Quinn Hughes on the top pair, which made this defense look like a real strength.
Since Minnesota drafted him 45th overall in 2020, Faber has piled up 33 goals and 127 points in 242 games.
Those minutes do not just disappear.
What comes next for the Wild
Minnesota opens the season on the road in Nashville, and it will do so without one of its most important players.
David Spacek has been added to the roster to help cover the gap.
The organization plans to follow its medical staff before sharing anything more on a return.
For now, the only thing that really matters is that Faber recovers fully, and Wild fans will be waiting on every update.
