Sidney Crosby shares heartfelt video tribute to the late Bob Cole
The Pittsburgh Penguins' captain Sidney Crosby shared a heartfelt video tribute to the late Bob Cole, who passed away earlier this week at 90 years old.
Crosby, like most Canadian hockey fans, grew up listening to Cole calling the games.
With the Penguins out of the playoffs once again this year, Crosby and his teammates have some extra time to recover from their season. Crosby used that time to come up with a heartfelt video tribute to Cole.
Here's what he said in the video:
"The big thing with him is he always wanted to be about the game. And that being said, he still had really high expectations of himself and he wanted to do it perfectly. And I know that just his story of how he got into it and how he continued to want to learn and get better and improve speaks volumes about how long he did it for and how good he was at it.
You are the voice of hockey. And like so many, my family crowded around the TV to listen to your calls. When I think of hockey's greatest moments, it's you narrating them. I'll always cherish our friendship along with your wisdom and grit.
I'm grateful for all the chats, the time we spent together over the years, and countless memories you gave to so many.
Your best gift might have been how you could draw us into every game and make us feel a part of every moment through your passion and grace. Years later, the simple sound of your voice brings you back to an exact time and place.
Thank you for sharing your gift with the world. Your legacy will live on forever, my friend."
You can watch the whole thing here, but make sure to grab some tissues before you do:
This video not only highlights the fact that Crosby is an amazing human being, but also the major impact that Bob Cole had on him and countless Canadians over the course of his 50-year career.
Once again, we want to express our condolences to everyone affected by that tragic loss.
