The NHL has locked in its French-language broadcast future in Canada.

Rogers Communications and Quebecor announced a new 12-year sub-licensing agreement on Thursday that keeps TVA Sports as the home of French hockey coverage through the 2037-38 season.
The deal builds on Rogers' existing national NHL rights, which the company holds through a separate 12-year, $11 billion agreement signed last year. Quebecor's previous French-language deal, worth more than $700 million over 12 years, expired at the end of the 2025-26 season.

What Fans Get on TVA Sports

Under the new terms, TVA Sports, TVA Sports Direct and the illico+ platform will carry up to 350 regular season games per year. That includes 32 Montreal Canadiens games, an increase of 10 from the previous arrangement.
Playoff coverage expands as well. TVA will distribute every Canadiens playoff game, along with six of the eight first-round series, three of four second-round series, both Conference Finals, and the Stanley Cup Final.

Why This Deal Matters

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman pointed to TVA Sports' 12 seasons of connecting French-speaking fans across Quebec and Canada to the league.
Quebecor CEO Pierre Karl Peladeau framed the renewal as an extension of a partnership dating back to 2014, tied closely to the Canadiens' cultural footprint in the province.
Rogers president and CEO Tony Staffieri called comprehensive French-language coverage a top priority for hockey fans nationwide.
Financial terms of the new sub-licensing agreement were not disclosed.
All of this is happening as the NHL also seeks a potential American TV rights deal that would allow the league to comfortably expand to 34 teams. This would mean the addition of two more franchises.
