Dylan Larkin's trade request has dominated the Detroit Red Wings' offseason, but Kevin Weekes believes the recent front office shakeup could change the equation.

Appearing on Off the Roster, the former NHL goaltender and current analyst suggested that Steve Yzerman's departure as general manager may be enough to soften Larkin's stance.
I think maybe the change in management might, and I'm not speaking for Dylan, but it might change the dynamic a little bit to make him want to stay; I'm not sure that he ends up being traded.

Why the GM Change Matters

Larkin requested a trade shortly after Detroit missed the playoffs for a tenth straight season, and much of the tension reportedly stemmed from his relationship with Yzerman.
With Yzerman now moved into an advisory role and no replacement named, the front office dynamic Larkin wanted to escape no longer exists in the same form.
Weekes is not alone in floating this theory. Several insiders have wondered whether a new general manager, one without the same history with Larkin, could reset the relationship and convince the captain to reconsider his request.

Market Still Frozen

Even if Larkin were open to staying, Detroit's asking price has kept the trade market stalled.
The Red Wings are reportedly seeking a proven, NHL-ready player in return, a demand that has scared off suitors like the Minnesota Wild, who remain his preferred destination.
With training camp approaching and no general manager in place, time is working against a resolution either way.
Whether Weekes' read on the situation holds up may depend less on Larkin's willingness and less on Detroit's price tag than on who ultimately takes over as GM.
