Tkachuk spent eight seasons in Ottawa after the Senators took him fourth overall in the 2018 draft, growing into the face of the franchise and wearing the C for the past several years.

That history is exactly why this idea has split the fan base right down the middle.

Some longtime supporters believe Tkachuk earned a proper sendoff no matter how things ended.
