The New York Rangers are hunting for goaltending help, and Toronto Maple Leafs netminder Anthony Stolarz has reportedly landed on their radar.

TSN insider Darren Dreger passed along the intel, saying:
I think they've actually kicked tires on Anthony Stolarz.
It is a fascinating development, even if the language is cautious. Kicking tires is not the same as negotiating, but it shows New York is at least doing its homework.

Why the Rangers Need Help Between the Pipes

The need is real. Igor Shesterkin is out for the season with a right knee injury that requires surgery and a lengthy rehab, which strips the Rangers of the franchise cornerstone they have leaned on for years.
Joonas Korpisalo is sidelined for another four weeks as well, leaving Dylan Garand with a massive opportunity but limited NHL experience.
Reporting has suggested the Rangers want to stay patient rather than make a panic move, and the idea of bringing in Jonathan Quick has even surfaced. Still, a proven starter would give this group far more stability.

Why Stolarz Fits the Profile

Stolarz brings size, a Stanley Cup pedigree from his time with the Florida Panthers, and a four-year, $15 million contract that carries a manageable cap hit. He also posted a standout first season in Toronto, which is exactly the kind of résumé a team in crisis wants.
Of course, getting a deal done would be difficult. Toronto holds the leverage here. Stolarz is a key piece of the Maple Leafs crease, and they would want a credible answer in goal before even considering a move.
The Rangers would also have to decide how much future value they are willing to part with for a goalie on a long-term deal.
For now, this looks like early groundwork rather than a deal on the verge of happening. But with Shesterkin sidelined for the year, expect the Rangers to keep exploring every avenue.
Stolarz is a name worth watching as the goalie market begins to take shape. Stay tuned, because this story is far from finished.
