Leafs' Divisional Foe May Make Bid for Brendan Shanahan to Join as Team President

Now that Brendan Shanahan is out with the Toronto Maple Leafs, a top divisional foe could soon make a bid for him to join their franchise and help turn them around.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have decided on a major change in leadership after their latest failure to advance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
It was announced by Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment that team president Brendan Shanahan's contract would not be renewed after over 10 years on the job.
It appeared as though he was on the verge of landing new employment right away after interviewing with the New York Islanders, though they went in a different direction and chose Mathieu Darche to lead their franchise.
What are the chances that a divisional foe of the Maple Leafs, who currently own the NHL's longest playoff drought dating back to 2011, could try and snag Shanahan to turn their franchise around?
Per Zackary Laware of Sabre Noise, could the Buffalo Sabres come calling in Shanahan's direction??
If Jason Karmanos doesn't come back as Assistant GM, then I could see Shanahan sliding into that role. As Shanahan could help Kevyn Adams with big decisions, and also shape the structure of the Rochester Americans. This could also apply to the Senior Advisor role that the Sabres are attempting to fill as well.
At this point, Sabres fans are fed up and looking for a change. There was plenty of available front office staff to hire this offseason, but they seem to be missing out on the big picture. They are filling all of their smaller roles but not addressing the big changes.

During Shanahan's time in Toronto, he oversaw numerous changes to the organization which included a special re-connection to top players in the franchise's past along with building the famous "Core 4" of Auston Matthews, William Nylander, Mitch Marner and John Tavares.
But the aforementioned players managed only a pair of series victories during their total time together; the Maple Leafs haven't advanced past the second round of the postseason since 2002.
