Don Cherry makes major announcement for his show regarding the 2024-25 NHL season
Former Sportsnet host Don Cherry revealed today that he is not going anywhere for the 2024-25 NHL season.
Cherry took to X this afternoon to make the announcement, revealing that he will be kicking off another season of his podcast, "The Don Cherry Podcast," at some point in the coming weeks. In doing so, he asked his audience members to share questions, some of which he will presumably be answering during the next episode.
Naturally, many fans took this as an opportunity to make personal comments about Cherry's politics, a topic that has been beaten to death at this point. However, some did also make an effort to ask some genuine and interesting questions, such as one fan asking about the Quebec Nordiques, and what team Cherry would move to bring them back.
Of course, the NHL could bring back the Nordiques without having to move a current team. In fact, with the Arizona Coyotes having been officially moved to Salt Lake City, there is not a team in the league that currently appears to be in danger of moving. One team that frequently comes up in these discussions is Winnipeg due to the small population of the city, but it wouldn't really make since to move them to the even smaller Quebec City market. Still though, it will be interesting to see how Cherry handles this topic.
Other fans asked questions about the Canadian NHL teams as we might expect. Generally speaking, these questions were focused on the
Toronto Maple Leafs and
Edmonton Oilers, which makes since considering the fact that the Oilers made it to the Stanley Cup finals last season. Toronto will always be in the discussion just through the nature of the city.
Surprisingly, no one asked Cherry who he thinks will be the Canadian team to break the Stanley Cup curse. The Oilers would seem like the obvious answer based on last season's success, but as we all know, making consecutive Stanley Cup finals is very rare in the modern era. The Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs also deserve to be in the conversation as they both should at least make the playoffs this season. Will either team advance further than Edmonton though? Only time will tell.
