Last night, the Blue Jackets and the Calgary Flames faced off in a heated battle in Columbus.
Don Sweeney's organization won 5-2 against the Flames, after a great performance from goaltender Elvis Merlzikins and a two-goal night for the rookie Adam Fantilli.
With that win, the Blue Jackets are slowly moving up in the Metropolitan Division. They're now at the sixth spot, only two points behind the Philadelphia Flyers.
The stakes are getting higher in Columbus, and players have been showing a lot of passion on the ice in the past weeks.
Merzllikins offered a great show to the fans by stopping 27 out of the 29 shots fired at him but was also involved in an altercation with an opponent.
It all started with the Flames trying a little bit too hard to score.
The goalie made a save and ended up sitting on the puck. The Flames defenseman MacKenzie Weegar poked him where it hurts the most, prompting Merzlikins to snap.
He lashed out at Weegar, landing multiple hits on his opponent, leading to a massive scrum between both teams.
Watch the following video to see the whole incident:
Weegar likely did not intend to hit the goalie in the groin, as his focus was on trying to push the puck past the goal line.
We can understand why the goalie reacted this way, and this probably made the victory taste even better.
