The Colorado Avalanche and the Nashville Predators decided to swap goaltenders in a surprising trade.

We don't often see goaltenders being traded in the NHL, and this time, two were traded in the same move.

Indeed, the Colorado Avalanche's general manager Chris MacFarland and his counterpart with the Nashville Predators Barry Trotz reached a deal on the trade market.

The Avs agreed to send a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and their goaltender Justus Annunen to Nashville in return for Scott Wedgewood.

The two goalies have offered underwhelming performances so far this season.

However, in Wedgewood's case, it can be attributed to the fact that the Predators are struggling. The team is currently seventh in the Central Division with a 7-12-5 record.

The goalie took part in five games and won only one of them. His .878 save percentage and 3.69 goals-against average could've been better in another team.

As for Annunen, he had more chances to show his talent with Alexandar Georgiev struggling as the team's number-one goalie, but hasn't been able to establish himself as a true elite goalie in the NHL, with 6-4-0 record, a 0.872 SV%, and a 3.23 GAA.

However, Annunen has much less experience than Wedgewood.

The 24-year-old goalie played only 29 games in the NHL, while Wedgewood, 32, took part in 135 games.

Fans are eager to see what awaits the two goaltenders in their new teams. Both the Avs and the Preds are playing tonight, and an official decision on the starting goalie is expected later today.

Colorado will face the Edmonton Oilers, while the Predators will meet with the red-hot Minnesota Wild.

The two games promise to be exciting to watch! Stay tuned for all the developments in the NHL today.
