Tonight, a new report has confirmed the Anaheim Ducks are on the verge of potentially losing a second player to an offer sheet this summer.
Earlier today, the Philadelphia Flyers shocked the hockey world by sending out an offer sheet to sign Anaheim Ducks star Leo Carlsson.
The Flyers offered Carlsson 18 million dollars which if matched by the Ducks would heavily impact their ability to surround him with talent.
Now, reports have indicated that if the Ducks do match the offer for Carlsson then a team will sign defenseman Pavel Mintyukov to an offer sheet that would prevent Anaheim from keeping both.
NHL insider expects Anaheim Ducks defenseman to be signed to an offer sheet
According to Kevin Weekes and other sources at least one team is preparing an offer sheet for defenseman Pavel Mintyukov.
With Anaheim Ducks being loaded with talent up front and on the back end, I'm told “several teams are crunching numbers and checking in on D Mintyukov as well.
This seems like a scenario that would play out after the Carlsson offer sheet is either matched or declined by the Ducks.
If Carlsson returns to Anaheim look for Mintyukov to immediately sign an offer sheet and likely be heading to a new home.
Mintyukov, 22, was seen as an offensive powerhouse defenseman in his draft year but has since transitioned into an elite two-way defenseman with upside for a big jump in points in the right system.
The situation would be eerily similar to the Edmonton Oilers a few years ago who lost both Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg to offer sheets after running out of salary cap space.
As more information is provided on the futures of Mintyukov and Carlsson we will pass that news along to you.
