The Vegas Golden Knights have had a fantastic run since entering the NHL, culminating in their first Stanley Cup victory a season ago with one of the deepest teams the league has seen in some time.

A veteran defenseman could be forced out due to cap constraints

According to a report however, veteran defenseman Alec Martinez who played a big role in that victory could be on the move, as the Golden Knights may look to move him in order to free up cap space and improve their team.

During the Cup run, which was the third of Martinez's impressive career, he tallied 7 points in 22 games, playing a key role with his leadership and physicality as the Golden Knights soundly defeated the Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Vegas going back-to-back in 2023-24?

While there's a feeling around the league that Martinez could stay, it appears as though this is the best move for Vegas, who could look to add more offensive firepower that will be needed to get through the likes of Colorado, Dallas, and Winnipeg in the West.
Ultimately, with a cap hit over $5.2 million this season, it makes plenty of sense for Vegas to try and find a trade partner willing to take him on, and if they get the right assets in return, there's no denying that this team could once again be the favorite to lift the Cup in 2023-24.
