The Toronto Maple Leafs' new General Manager, Brad Treliving, is facing some important tasks with their top stars, Auston Matthews and William Nylander, as both players are entering the final year of their contracts and will soon become unrestricted free agents (UFA).
During a media conference in Toronto yesterday, Treliving emphasized that signing Matthews was his primary objective, without mentioning Nylander. There have been rumors suggesting that Toronto might consider trading Nylander to help finance Matthews' contract extension.
Leafs Looking To Deal Nylander
Currently, there is speculation that Treliving is interested in acquiring Moritz Seider, a highly skilled defenseman from the Detroit Red Wings, in exchange for Nylander. This trade scenario is intriguing, especially since Red Wings General Manager Steve Yzerman has expressed his desire to add a goal scorer to his team.
Nylander For Sieder?
However, it remains uncertain whether Yzerman would be willing to part ways with Seider, whom he drafted 6th overall in 2019. Seider is only 22 years old, stands at 6'4" and weighs 205 pounds.
If such a blockbuster trade were to occur, it would undoubtedly draw significant attention. Personally, although I am fond of Nylander, I find it unlikely that Yzerman would be willing to trade Seider.
