The Toronto Maple Leafs recently extended Auston Matthews, keeping him around for another five years, and now, all eyes turn to the final member of the core four without a long-term deal, William Nylander.
A new deal for the 27-year old seems a fair way off, as he has shown no sense of urgency to get one done, and the further he goes into the season without a deal, the likelier a trade becomes.
This has led to much speculation throughout the league, and on Sunday, one Toronto analyst predicted a trade no one has thought out yet, and that would be one to send Nylander to the team's biggest rival, the Montreal Canadiens.
In this proposal, Michael Traikos brought up some names that no one in Montreal would consider trading, especially in a deal for an expiring player in Nylander.
For a Canadiens team that are set on their rebuild, they wouldn't have much use for a 27-year old looking to win right now, and giving up one of their most popular players in the process makes less sense, but never say never.
