Team Canada Players Recieve Threats For Losing To Czechia
Sad Ending for Team Canada at the WJC
Yesterday, Team Canada got eliminated from the World Junior Championship in Sweden by the Czechia. While Canada didn't have many of their best players for that tournament, it still took many fans by surprise to see them lose in the quarterfinals.
With around 10 seconds left to the third period, Czechia surprised everyone and scored, winning the game, and eliminating Canada.
There's been a shocking development after the game.
Team Canada Players Receive Hateful Messages Online
Per TSN's Gord Miller, many fans expressed their frustration about Canada's elimination by sending threats and hateful messages to the players.
"I understand that people in Canada are disappointed with the QF loss, but it's disheartening to hear that some of the players are being subjected to nasty personal messages on social media. There's no need for that, they did their best and lost. Two years ago Canada won a gold medal in OT after a miraculous goal line save by Mason McTavish, last year they won the QF in OT on Conor Bedard's goal after a deflected Slovak shot hit the shaft of Thomas Milic's stick. It happens." Let us remind everyone that players at the World Junior Championship are children still. They absolutely don't deserve to receive hateful messages.
It's only a sport and it's only one championship. This is truly unacceptable coming from fans, who should be ashamed to insult or threaten young men that did all they could on the ice.
More to come.
