It was announced by Philadelphia Flyers president of Hockey Operations Keith Jones that Ryan Ellis is reportedly done playing in the NHL.
Ryan Ellis' Injury History
Ryan Ellis has been struggling to stay healthy his entire NHL career, according to Keith Jones, Ellis is retiring due to a back injury he suffered in 2021.
#Flyers President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones told reporters today that D Ryan Ellis has a torn psoas muscle in his back, and has likely played his last NHL game.
Jones when asked about a surgical option for Ellis:
"I think that he's exhausting everything that he can in order to play, like we all do. You never want to have the void of not doing something that you'd love to do. He did it very effectively when he played so it's got to be really difficult."
Ellis has not played a game in the NHL since November of 2021.
Ellis played 566 games in the NHL as a member of the Nashville Predators and Philadelphia Flyers, collecting 275 points in his career.
The 32-year-old defenseman has a 4 years left with an annual cap hit of $6.525 million.
Ellis was traded to Flyers back in the 2021 off-season for Nolan Patrick and Phillipe Myers and only played 4 games with the Flyers organization.
