It's been a disappointing start to the 2022-23 season for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are sitting 6th in the Atlantic with a 4-3-0 record.

Auston Matthews only has 1 goal on the season and Marner only has 5 points on the year, so the team is being led by Tavares and Nylander, who are often criticized by fans and media for poor play but have started the season fairly hot.
The Maple Leafs were up against the cap, so close that they almost needed to dress less than the normal 18 skaters for a game due to injury. But suddenly they have found themselves with plenty of cap wiggle room as today the Maple Leafs have moved Jake Muzzin who carried a cap hit of $5,625,000 to Long-term injured reserve.
Muzzin left the game a few nights ago with an injury and with this move to LTIR, it most likely means that the injury was more significant than originally thought.
Teammates were even commenting on the possibility of Muzzin's career being over.
With the move to LTIR, Muzzin will miss atleast 10 games, so we shouldn't be expecting to see him for atleast a month or so.
Muzzin has had a history of injuries and with each one getting more severe, Muzzin could quite possibly be out for the season, which means the Maple Leafs will have his cap space to work with to make a trade, possibly for Jakob Chychrun?
