Then they locked up some of the players that helped them win this cup to long term deals: Lehkonen (5 years $4,500,000 AAV), Nichushkin (8 years $6,125,000 AAV) and they also locked up their star forward Nathan MacKinnon to a long term deal.
MacKinnon who has been underpaid for most of his career, signed an incredible 8 year deal with an AAV of $12,600,000 making him the highest paid player in the National Hockey League.
While this team is predicted to take another run at a Stanley Cup this year, they are going to have to do it without a few players to start the season. They will start the season without captain Gabriel Landeskog, and projected 2nd line center JT Compher is still listed as day-to-day, but now the big news is, Nathan MacKinnon will possibly not be ready for seasons start.
Nathan MacKinnon tweaked something today, Jared Bednar said. Asked if the center is day-to-day, Bednar said, «I guess.»
He's optimistic J.T. Compher will be ready for opening night. Peter Baugh (@Peter_Baugh) October 8, 2022
