The Detroit Red Wings are a historic franchise and have seen some of the best players put on their jersey that have ever played the game. From Yzerman, to Fedorov, then passing on the torch to players like Nicklas Lidstrom, Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, the Wings have been a dominant team for a long time.
But these last few years have been rough in Detroit, the Wings have not made the playoffs since Pavel Datsyuk left the team back at the end of the 2016 NHL season. Datsyuk's final season just happened to be the first season for now captain Dylan Larkin, and in his 7 year career, was the only year his team made it to the playoffs.
Larkin is in the final year of a 5 year contract with an AAV of $6,100,000, but in this final year he has a Full No-Trade-Clause. Larkin is no longer a young player in this league, he has played in 504 career games and has registered 358 points.
At the end of this contract, Larkin will be a UFA, and there have been some reports that Larkin will not negotiate a contract during the NHL season, so the Wings have until Tuesday to get a deal done to lock him in, or their captain could just walk in free agency.
The Wings did a lot this offseason to improve their roster, by signing quite a few players in free agency, but will it be enough to make Larkin be interested in staying?
