The Oilers improved their goaltending significantly this offseason by adding Jack Campbell, but the lack of scoring depth could still continue to be a factor for the Oilers. Both McDavid and Draisaitl had over 30 points in the playoffs this season, but they cannot be relied on as much as they currently are or they will never have team success.
All summer we have heard rumours circulating that the Oilers are trying to trade Jesse Puljujarvi. A former 4th overall pick back in 2016, he hasn't quite developed the way the Oilers had hoped, especially when players like Matthew Tkachuk and Alex Debrincat were selected after him.
Another issue the Oilers currently have is they are over the cap limit and need to get below it before the start of the season next week. Which if they were able to move out Puljujarvi, that will bring them $3 million closer.
