At the beginning of the summer, NHL veteran Dun Keith announced that he was officially retiring from the National Hockey League. While his playing days are over, it appears that the three time Stanley Cup champion will be staying with the Edmonton Oilers in a management role.
Bob Stauffer the host of "Oilers Now" confirmed the reports that Keith will be remaining with the Oilers, but the specific role at the moment has not been specified. Stauffer stated that Keith could be offered the assistant General Manager position or become part of the coaching staff.
Keith was one of the best two way defenceman in the NHL during his time, scoring 625 points and a plus-144 rating, averaging a 24:57 ice-time over 1,192 career games. Keith won the Norris on 2 occasions and the Conn Smythe once.
When he announced his retirement, it had implications on both the Oilers and Blackhawks as he still had years remaining on his contract. Chicago will face a cap recapture penalty of $5.54 million next season and $1.9 million in 2023-23.
