As of today it has been announced that Alexander Ovechkin has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be placed in COVID protocol. This unfortunately means Ovechkin will not be available for the all-star game.
Ovechkin who was selected to be team captain for the Metro division, so now we wait to see who will be selected as his replacement.
Per NHL/NHLPA's new covid protocols, today was the last day all players (including asymptomatic fully vaccinated players) needed to be tested for covid-19 to be included.
Ovechkin who was on pace for over 100 points this season, will have to put his pursuit of Gretzky's record on hold for a few games.
