With the stress of the playoffs coming up, it's always fun to look at some funny stats like this. time2play.com did a study on which NHL fans drink the most, and to see the difference between #1 & #32 is actually amazing.
The top-5 on this study, which is based on a survey of almost 1,600 fans in the US and Canada.
1. Toronto 3.9
2. Chicago 3.8
3. Tampa Bay 3.7
4. Colorado 3.7
5. Arizona 3.6
The Oilers were sixth at 3.5
The Toronto Maple Leafs ended up being the team with the fan base that drinks the most and also spends the most on alcohol.
Which if you think about it, its not that surprising. With the Toronto Maple Leafs the team is either so good that it becomes a part atmosphere, or so bad that fans are drinking their sorrows away. Which option 2 must be why the Arizona Coyotes fan base is so high.
One stat that is a little surprising though is the New York Rangers who's fan base only drinks 1.8 per game and spends $24.30 opposed to Toronto's 3.9 and $58.50.
Do people not drink in New York?
