A new report from an NHL insider has confirmed that Marc-Andre Fleury could be nearing the end of his tenure in Minnesota. The report also mentions several teams that could potentially have interest if Fleury is made available.
NHL Insider Reveals Fleury's Days In Minnesota Are Numbered
Recently NHL insider Pierre LeBrun mentioned that he reached out to Minnesota Wild General Manager Bill Guerin to discuss Marc-Andre Fleury. During their chat about Fleury, Bill Guerin admitted that a trade could be coming soon for Fleury.
Guerin acknowledged that, yes, if they fall out of it, he expects teams to call and he expects to have a discussion with Marc-Andre Fleury. Fleury has to have that discussion in the next couple weeks with his agent, Allan Walsh. They have a full no-move (clause), it's up to Walsh and Fleury if he goes anywhere before the deadline, and we don't know the answer to that yet.
With the Wild quite far out of a playoff spot at this point, it is likely that Fleury might want to move on to a contender. If he does then Guerin will likely take those calls and try to work out a deal to get Fleury to his next home.
After confirming this news LeBrun went on to speculate which teams might be interested.
NHL Insider Reveals Where Fleury Might End Up Next
After wrapping up his comments on behalf of Bill Guerin NHL insider Pierre LeBrun began to speculate on the future for Marc-Andre Fleury. LeBrun mentions four teams in his speculation.
The first is the Toronto Maple Leafs who LeBrun says took a run at acquiring Fleury in the past.
But there's some obvious teams to think about, Toronto tried to trade for him two years ago. Different GM, but nevertheless, the Leafs still have question marks in goal.
Another team that has question marks in goal is the Edmonton Oilers. Similarly to the Maple Leafs the Oilers had a veteran goaltender underperform possibly necessitating a move. Also the New Jersey Devils get a quick mention.
Edmonton, how about a mentor to
Stuart Skinner? New Jersey, they haven't had saves all year.
Finally, the Carolina Hurricanes are considered an option. LeBrun believes the Hurricanes are looking to bring in a mentor for goalie of the future
Pyotr Kochetkov.
Carolina, how about a mentor to (Pyotr) Kochetkov?
All of these options have their benefits and challenges for Fleury to consider. As the process plays out it could be interesting to see how much influence and say Fleury ends up having in his new home.
