Yesterday the Oilers fired Dave Tippett, and immediately after the Oilers reporter Mark Spector released an article which criticized the team and it's best player Connor McDavid. This wasn't a surprising article as "Spec" seems hellbent on protecting aging hockey men like Ken Holland and Dave Tippett.

In his article "Spec" called out McDavid's compete level and his will to win, something few people have ever questioned about McDavid.

"Connor McDavid uses his surreal speed to fly the zone and scorer highlight-reel goals, but not often enough to prevent chances in his own zone. He's great with the puck, but without it McDavid -- who has spoken of his need to defend better, and has made strides -- still couldn't carry Sid Crosby's equipment bag.

He could, if he wanted to. If McDavid ever wants to win, he's better learn to want to."

While most hockey players choose to ignore the noise outside of their market it did seem like these comments got to McDavid because after his press availability he pulled out this boss move and called out 'Spec' in front of everyone. Not to engage in a conflict, but to pull the veteran reporter aside to presumably deal with this issues behind closed door.

Good on McDavid for addressing this issue, because clearly the Best Player in the World doesn't need his motivations questioned by a member of Edmonton's media circus.
