The Leafs announced today via X (Twitter) Baun's passing, and previous reports stated that Baun Passed Monday evening. Baun was 86 years old.
Baun was a 4-time stanley cup champion with the leafs, playing with the franchise from 1956-1967 and then again from 1970-1973. He scored 37 goals and 187 assists in 964 career games.
Baun was notorious for his toughness. Despite standing at 5 foot 9, he was a hard-nosed defenseman who racked up over 1400 minutes in penalties during his career. As mentioned in the Leafs' statement, his strength and toughness were demonstrated by his unwavering commitment to the team, even scoring the cup-winning goal in 1964 on a broken leg.
Our thoughts and condolences are with the Baun family and those close to him.
