Incase you've been living under a rock, just under a week ago, the Florida Panthers traded Jonathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar, a prospect and a 1st round pick to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Matthew Tkachuk.
Huberdeau was obviously a little upset about the trade as when he was introduced by the Flames, and asked about re-signing long term with the Flames, he had this to say:
The player he was traded for Matthew Tkachuk, actually scored less, only scoring 42 goals 104 points in 82 games.
We saw Tkachuk immediately sign an 8 year $9.5 million AAV with the Panthers, and with Huberdeau and Weegar both being UFA's at the end of next season, it's been questioned whether they will re-sign with the Flames and if so, how much will they cost?
Journalists Andy Strickland and Cam Janssen were discussing the deal on their podcast and they believed Huberdeau will be asking for an 8 year deal with an AAV of $9 million. While this is less than what Tkachuk received, age is definitely a factor in the equation.
