Matvei Michkov was one of the most controversial players of the 2023 NHL Draft. Selected by the Philadelphia Flyers many wondered if the offensive dynamo would need to change his game to play for notorious coach John Tortorella.
Tortorella finally answered this question when talking about his team yesterday.
"You get to the future, you start moving away a couple of years from now when the Mad Russian comes over here I want to stay with this style."

Despite Tortorella's warnings to Michkov the Russian star has been on fire in his draft plus one year.
Michkov Proving His Doubters Wrong
After much debate and doubt surrounding the risk associated with drafting Matvei Michkov, he is finally playing at an elite level.
Michkov was once again allowed to be loaned to HK Sochi to get more playing time. In 28 games with Sochi, he has 26 points. This point total is some of the best marks we have seen from a player his age in the KHL ever.

With Michkov playing so well this season many wonder if his timeline to reach the NHL has changed. If he comes over sooner than expected we will have to see how Torts and Michkov co-exist. Tortorella has had a mixed relationship with skilled stars in the past. If Michkov shows a commitment and effort in his own zone he should be fine.
