Ever since the Montreal Canadiens won the 2022 NHL draft lottery Tuesday night, many wondered have wondered, will Canadiens keep the pick or listen to trade offers and if they choose to keep it, who are they taking first overall? Despite Shane Wright claiming he deserves to go first overall in the upcoming NHL draft, the Canadiens could take US born Logan Cooley instead as Hughes has a relationship with him already. Habs GM Kent Hughes is not revealing who his choice is or if he would trade the pick or not. Hughes just said
"he's listening to offers"
Dan Kramer a popular hockey columnist and junior hockey expert for the TSN690 network, shared an interesting trade proposal from the New Jersey Devils to the Montreal Canadiens that includes the first overall pick.
This deal comes after Kramer revealed the Montreal Canadiens were showing some interest in Devils forward Pavel Zacha.
Zacha had his best season this year in New Jersey, scoring 15 goals 36 points in 70 games.
According to Kramer the trade looks like this:
To Montreal: Devils' 2022 first-round pick (2nd overall) + Pavel Zacha
To New Jersey: 2022 first round pick of the Habs (1st overall).
If the Canadiens are indeed taking Logan Cooley over Shane Wright this trade could be beneficial as they are getting a top six forward heading into his prime free of charge.
