We are a few days into Free Agency and while all the talk has been about big names like Johnny Gaudreau signing a massive deal or the talks of Nazem Kadri and John Klingberg still being unsigned, some good deals have flown under the radar in the NHL.
The Florida Panthers won the Presidents Trophy last season as the teams best regular season team, but unfortunately got swept in the second round to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Due to cap reasons they've lost a few players this offseason and have been adding a few depth players at great contracts.
The Florida Panthers signed former Ottawa Senator, Chris Tierney to a one-year two way deal with a cap hit of $750k in the NHL or $400k in the minors.
Tierney had just 18 points in 70 games last season but has averaged around 40 points per season through his career, 226 points in 561 games.
Tierney is now 28, but still has a lot of upside to his game. He never quite found his potential playing for the Ottawa Senators in a bottom 6 role, but if the Florida Panthers can get him going, he can easily be a 15 goal 25-30 assist player, which they found out last year, you need scoring in your bottom lines to make it far in the playoffs.
