When the Seattle Kraken secured Shane Wright as their 4th overall pick, it felt as if they had hit the jackpot. Many hockey analysts had speculated that teams like the Montreal Canadiens would eventually regret overlooking Wright.
Things Ain't Looking Bright For Wright
Yet, when Wright didn't make the cut for the Kraken's roster this season, he was sent back to junior hockey, raising a few eyebrows in the process.
Wright's Unanticipated Setbacks in Junior Hockey
In a turn of events, Wright was acquired by the Windsor Spitfires amid a fierce bidding war. However, his stint with the Spitfires fell short of expectations; they were unexpectedly swept by the 8th seeded Kitchener Rangers.
After dealing with the struggles of failing in the Ontario Hockey League playoffs, Wright's was called up to the Kraken's AHL affiliate Charlotte Checkers with continuing struggles.
Not daunted by this setback, Wright was promoted to the Charlotte Checkers, the Kraken's AHL affiliate team, currently in the running for the Calder Cup final. However, in spite of the golden opportunity, Wright's performance has been less than stellar. With a mere four points in 12 games, he has been reduced to a healthy scratch by the Checkers.
Wright Made Healthy Scratch In Calder Cup Final
Given the enormous expectations tied to his potential, Wright's current struggles paint a worrisome picture. If this downward trend continues, he could unfortunately become one of the most significant busts in NHL history.
