The New Jersey Devils came into the 2023-24 season as one of the Eastern Conference's strongest teams, and while the offense has been great, there's a glaring hole on this squad.
In net, the Devils have combined for a 3.53 GAA and an .889 save percentage, which just isn't good enough, especially in arguably the most stacked division in the NHL.
Now, it has been reported that the Devils have re-engaged with the Anaheim Ducks for a potential trade with star goaltender John Gibson, who is as proven a commodity in net as anyone in the league.
In 20 starts this season, Gibson has posted a 2.85 GAA with a .906 save percentage behind a young, inexperienced Ducks defense, and with plenty of prospects and picks to give up by New Jersey, this is certainly a move that would make sense.
While nothing appears imminent, the connection between these two sides dates back to last season, and if the Devils don't turn it around quickly, it's likely that the talks will ramp up as New Jersey look to go on a deep Stanley Cup run while the Ducks continue their rebuild.
