Steve Yzerman is regarded by many as the best general manager in the NHL, and for good reason. He built the current core of the Tampa Bay Lightning and is known for draft steals such as Moritz Seider. Could he be on the market for a massive purchase this summer?
Detroit to Pursue Hellebuyck
According to a recent article by The Sun, a potential offer for Winnipeg's star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck could include some of Detroit's biggest assets.
"The Sun proposed trade would send Ville Husso, the Red Wings' no. 9 pick in the upcoming NHL draft, plus prospect Marco Kasper to Winnipeg for Hellebuyck."
This is certainly a hefty price to pay, but it could be worth it.
Detroit May Not Bite
While Detroit would certainly love to have a star goaltender, they have recently drafted goalie Sebastian Cossa in the pipeline, who looks to be a future NHL starter. That, in addition to Winnipeg's large ask, may turn the Red Wings away from this trade.
While Yzerman could still look for an upgrade in net for the short term, especially with the likely departure of Alex Nedeljkovic this summer, it's unlikely he makes a big purchase such as the trade proposed above.
